For a long time I didn’t have defined services, but over time and out of necessity, I’ve refined this a bit. I’m still pretty flexible, so feel free to reach out if you have an idea that’s not mentioned here.

Recipe

Development

I have vast experience in commercial and custom recipe development, across a range of modalities.

  • I formulate ‘complete and balanced’ recipes for dogs and cats of all life stages, according to the current AAFCO, FEDIAF or NRC nutrition guidelines. I prefer to use species appropriate whole foods wherever possible.

    I have experience formulating raw, cooked and lightly cooked, freeze-dried and air-dried dog and cat food.

    Many of the recipes I have formulated are currently in production for market-leading Australian pet food brands. ‍ ‍

  • I can provide guidance and formulation of supplementary pet health products, such as meal toppers and targeted nutrition supplements.

    I prefer to work with food-based ingredients, but have experience working with isolates, extracts and nutrient supplementation.

    When formulating commercial recipes, I take into consideration ingredient interactions, therapeutic dosing and real-life benefits, market appeal, sourcing constraints and manufacturing costs.

  • If you have existing recipes that you would like reviewed, I can provide written feedback and typical nutrition analysis with my recommendations for improvements.

    If you would like to ensure your current products are nutritionally complete, I can analyse the recipes and re-formulate them to the required nutrition standards, while maintaining the integrity of your original concept.

  • I can provide detailed nutrition data analysis and reports for recipes - alongside the applicable nutrition standard (AAFCO, FEDIAF, NRC) for complete and balanced recipes.

    I can provide feeding guides based on your recipes and required parameters, and supply Australian Standard compliant packaging information.

Technical

copywriting

I have a postgraduate degree in publishing, so I can create your product, then explain to your customers why they need it.

  • I use industry leading nutrition software to analyse the typical nutritional content of recipes, using data from Food Standards Australia New Zealand, the USDA, supplier specs, clinical testing and peer reviewed research.

    From this I can prepare nutrition information panels suitable for compliant packaging, while highlighting the product benefits.

  • I have spent years creating engaging, accessible and factually accurate content on complex nutritional topics for a range of clients.

    I draw on my decade of recipe formulation and nutrition consultancy, combined with my postgraduate degree in copywriting and editing.

  • I can provide guidance around pet food product packaging requirements, industry best practice and my personal recommendations for your product.

    If you need packaging copy, I can craft this, along with any required nutrition information.

  • I will happily answer good faith questions, give honest reviews, and offer my “expert” opinion, when I can.

    Unfortunately I’m not able to help with school projects and private mentorship.

I am a writer by trade and have written extensively in the pet industry, both as an expert and a ghostwriter.

  • I am a university educated copywriter and editor, and writing is truly one of my passions.

    Over the last decade I have written extensively for some of the most recognisable names in natural pet health.

    Unfortunately I have very limited capacity to take on writing work these days, as it requires a level of mental immersion my young family simply doesn’t permit.

    I generally only endorse products I have personally formulated, but I am happy to chat if you have an idea.

  • My primary goal through my work in pet nutrition is to make unconditionally good pet food accessible to as many pet owners as possible, through whatever means necessary.
